KOCHI: The Thazhuppu North Division of Palluruthy has become a dumping ground for waste disposal. There are no garbage bins in the area and the few ones available cannot be used. In addition, the corporation collects the waste dumped in the area once  in every three days. Due to lack of proper waste collection mechanism, the residents end up throwing the waste in open. As the area is densely populated, the authorities should look into the issue with all seriousness, area residents said.  Councillor Mumthaz said, “I have presented this problem before the council but no action has been taken yet. The problem can be solved only if the corporation grants two vehicles for collecting garbage.”The worst affected are the young children studying in the Government UP School as the garbage is disposed right in front of the school. Also, the mid-day meal for children is prepared inside the school premises, which is adjacent to the dumping place.  Some ‘Kudumbasree’ members who collect garbage from the houses also dump the waste in front of the school. They say that most of the time, the corporation garbage vehicles do not come to collect the waste and they are left with no choice but dispose it in the open.
