BHUBANESWAR: Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat on Friday directed the State Government to take a note of the damage to crops and properties done by elephants herds at several places across the State.Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Amar Prasad Satpathy (NCP) said marauding elephant herds have done immense damage to crops in Ganjam, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and several other districts. Satpathy alleged that the State Government has so far not taken any steps to compensate the farmers who suffered crop loss. He requested the Speaker to direct the State Government to compensate those who have lost crops and properties in elephant attacks. Supporting Satpathy, Nrusingha Charan Sahu (BJD) alleged that though the elephants are wreaking large-scale damage, reports are not submitted to the Revenue Department in time. He said steps should be initiated to compensate those who suffered loss to their crops and properties.
