CHENNAI: Drama prevailed for a while at the Government Children’s Hospital at Egmore on Saturday afternoon, after a Muslim outfit charged the doctors there with ill-treatment, both medically and verbally. A visibly upset Rasina, mother of two-year-old Ahmed recounted how she had brought her son in to have an eye inflammation looked at on Tuesday. After the boy was examined, doctors apparently asked her to bring him in for a biopsy on Thursday. After the procedure was done and medication had apparently been prescribed she took her son home, but later found that the inflammation in his eye still remained. “I was asked by my family to ask the doctors what the problem was and why they had operated on his throat,” she said.According to her, when she went to the outpatient ward of the hospital and asked the duty doctor there for a clarification, he treated her rudely and even tore up the OP slips. Further, she alleged that the nurses and matrons there made disparaging remarks about her religion. “This is when she complained to us and we decided to raise the issue,” said Alam, a member of the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamadh. When contacted, a hospital official confirmed that there had been words exchanged and that stringent action would ensue, if the doctors and staff were found guilty of abuse.
