Have you ever had pani puri which is tasty and has medicinal properties? If not, you must come to one particular place when you visit Gokarna, Karnataka. There is a small bakery called Amma’s Pani Puri. Do you know what is special about it? There are six different varieties of pani served with the puri. Another special variety here is homemade water mixed with medicinal herbs.

Manohar Shankar started this shop in Gokarna just four months ago when he was still working in Pune. He started a pani puri shop because he thought that the pani puri variations should also be given to the people of this village.

Here you get pani puri made of 6 different varieties of pani. There are five types namely lemon, water cumin, garlic, cumin, khatta meetha, hajam pachak and a regular pani. The special thing about it is that there is no special price for it. Just like the regular pani puri, they cost around Rs 30 to 40. If you want, you can add different flavours to each puri and try it. This is also a popular place for women. One gets quality pain puri at a low price.

Manohar Shankar said that these spices are made by adding cumin, neem, spinach, garlic, ginger, pachana masala called hajam pachak, jaggery and black pepper.

Usually, selling pani puri doesn’t sound like a profitable job, but now a pani puri seller’s confession about his daily earnings is challenging that notion. Earlier this month, an Instagram user shared a video asking a pani puri seller about his daily salary or profit. The seller said that he earns around Rs 2,500 a day. This undated clip has already garnered over 15 lakh likes. The identity of the pani puri seller is not revealed.

Commenting on this video, an Instagram user wrote, “They also work very hard. They have to make everything from scratch and serve it standing up all day. That makes sense.” Another person wrote, “It’s hard to work like that. Sometimes it’s hot or cold, windy or rainy. Sometimes thieves steal their money. It’s easier to work indoors.”
