Delhi/Pune: We all are familiar with the awkward moments that every young adult goes through. First day of college, annual functions, social situations, family dramas, and of course, the day when your parents decide to give you The Talk.
While the parents usually are late for The Talk by about 5-6 years (blame the friends, social media or television) young ones these days are even more ahead of the curve.
During the rare holiday that this writer was lucky to take, she was caught amidst a banter between her siblings -- a 24-year-old mathematician and a 19-year-old engineering student. The two of them were discussing about how Bollywood songs are packed with sexual innuendoes.
"Take the example of the song 'Tip tip barsa paani,' for instance," said the young man, who along with engineering, is also an 'Otaku' -- a Japanese term for an anime and manga fan. "I mean, seriously, you know what THAT is all about," he said, quirking an eyebrow.
As the young lady with the mathematical bend of mind tried to argue, he added, "I will give you a latest example -- Sunny Leone's 'Pink Lips'."
"What's wrong with that one," asked this writer, surprised.
"You know what that song is about, right? RIGHT?!"
"No, what?"
"Oh come on, Tai (big sister). Haven't you seen the video?"
"I have, and apart from the usual stuff, there's nothing more to it."
"Well, see it again," he insisted, as he YouTube-ed the song on his phone.
Freezing the screen on a particular dance step by Sunny Leone, he pointed, "Does that look like an apt description of pink 'lips' to you?"
Awkward silence. Cough. Head scratch. Cough.
The young man grinned.
That was when this 27-year-old writer revelled in the horrible awkwardness of the moment that a 19-year-old's argument about a song being full of sexual innuendos made perfect sense.
"I'm going to tell on you," was all this writer could manage.####
