Kharif prospects brighten despite 3 percent deficit rainfall

The prospects of a good Kharif crop look bright now with the rainfall improving the situation significantly. The recent rains, particular in Telangana and coastal Andhra, have buoyed the hopes of farmers as well as officials. The state had experienced a deficit rainfall in June with just 83.5 mm of rain received against a normal rainfall of 108.4 mm.

However, the situation turned for better in July when the rainfall was 202.9 mm against a normal rainfall of 188 mm. However, there is a 3 percent deficit of rainfall in the state as on Thursday.

According to officials, as against the total cropping area of 80.29 lakh ha, sowing was taken up in 53.67 lakh ha.
