Kolkata’s RG Kar Doctor Rape Murder case has shocked the nation. The protests have engulfed the roads of Kolkata with the participation of people from all walks of life including clay modellers, rickshaw pullers and junior doctors. Demanding the arrest of the culprits and exemplary punishment in the incident, the protesting doctors drew symbolic pictures of the victim inside the hospital.

On Saturday night, the doctors sought justice by drawing symbolic pictures of the victim inside and outside the emergency department of the Jhargram Government Medical College and Hospital. The body of the post-graduate trainee was found lying on the floor inside the emergency department of the hospital. “And when” was written above the poster asking authorities about justice. They wrote “Justice delayed is justice denied” under the symbolic photo of the victim.

Doctors drew a woman on the floor outside the hospital’s exterior with several black hands about to swallow her. And under it is written, “stop violence against women.” Alpana Chare, doctor of Jhargram Government Medical College and Hospital said, “Still we have not got justice. The main culprits involved in the incident are yet to be arrested. We didn’t have security before and we haven’t been given that security till now.”

She further said that along with her several people protested on the floors of emergency departments and other departments with the photographs. The only purpose of painting here is so that the patients who come to the hospital to get medical services can know that they have not yet received justice. The doctors of Jhargram Government Medical College and Hospital have made it clear that the protest and agitation will continue until justice is done.

The former students of various ages chanted ‘We Want Justice’ as they walked along Rash Behari Avenue to the crossing of Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Road from Gariahat.

Ex-students of institutes like Binodini Girls School, Mitra Institution, Garfa High School, Carmel High School and St John’s Diocesan took part in the procession, singing the iconic composition of rebel poet Kaji Nazrul Islam: “Karar oi louho kopat, bhenge phel korre lopat” (Destroy the iron gates of prison).
