A high-level committee headed by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will have the final word on the recommendations submitted by five sub-committees on the subject of capital city development, sub-committee convener and Health Minister V S Sivakumar said on Friday.
He was addressing a meeting at the Secretariat which discussed the development agenda. Friday’s meeting also discussed issues related to various development zones in the city, preparation of reports for projects that envisage the development process required for another two decades, funding and budget share.
The meeting also discussed traffic systems in developed cities abroad. The development of 42.06 kilometres in Thiruvananthapuram, undertaken by the Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Ltd (TRDCL), is nearing completion. The meeting further discussed the subsequent development of link, radial, inner ring, outer ring and coastal road networks.
A major suggestion put up at the meeting was the appointment of NATPAC and KELTRON as implementation agencies for junction improvement works and signal systems respectively. Cooperation among various agencies was essential in expanding water supply and drainage systems in the city, the meeting said.
Chief Secretary K Jayakumar, who also heads the empowered committee, TRIDA chairman P K Venugopal, INKEL managing director T Balakrishnan, NATPAC director Dr B G Sreedevi, department secretaries and the chief town planner attended.
