A woman in Meghalaya was beaten with sticks and dragged by four men after she was accused of having an extramarital affair. The video of the incident went viral and a case has been filed by the police.
The incident took place in the Lower Teksagre area of West Garo Hills district’s Dadenggre.
In the viral clip of the incident, a man is seen beating the woman with the stick and dragging her on the ground by grabbing her hair.
Other men are also seen in the clip hitting the woman with sticks and kicking her as she lies on the ground in public. People of the village including women, elderly men and children stood by watching her being beaten and dragged on the ground atrociously.
The police have arrested five persons after a case was registered under the relevant sections. According to the police, the accused alleged that the woman was having an extramarital affair.
Meanwhile, Sutnga Saipung MLA, Santa Mary Shylla, who is the Chairperson of the Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment sought a report from the police and said that she would also ask the Superintendent of Police of all the 12 districts of Meghalaya to remain alert against any type of crime against women.
