MHA Forms Panel To Probe Delhi Coaching Centre Deaths, LG Promises Swift Action Against Errant Officials
The home ministry said it will probe the deaths and the Delhi lieutenant governor said that prompt action will be taken against officials responsible.

The ministry of home affairs Monday set up a committee to probe the deaths of the three civil services aspirants inside a library housed in the basement of their coaching centre.

The panel will submit its report in 30 days, the ministry said. “The committee will inquire into the reasons, fix responsibility, suggest measures and recommend policy changes,” the ministry said in a social media post on X.

“The committee will have Additional Secretary, MoUHA, Principal Secretary (Home), Delhi Govt, Special CP, Delhi Police, Fire Advisor and JS, MHA as Convener,” the ministry said in its social media post.

Governor Assures Prompt Action, Announces Compensation

Meanwhile, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of three civil services aspirants in Old Rajinder Nagar.

Lieutenant Governor Saxena also assured action against responsible officials of Delhi Fire Services(DFS), police, and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) within 24 hours.

A Joint Task Force of MCD and DFS, constituted under the order of the Delhi High Court in the fire incident at a coaching centre at Mukherjee Nagar earlier this year, will also undertake a survey of all buildings in Rajinder Nagar area, it said.

It will seal off all basements and other illegal structures which are in violation of building bye laws, MPD 2021 and fire safety norms, the statement added.

‘No Violation Will Be Spared’

The Delhi civic body also kicked off a sealing drive targeting the capital city’s coaching centre hubs northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar and Old Rajinder Nagar.

This comes two days after three civil services aspirants died after a library housed in the basement of their coaching centre, Rau’s IAS Study Circle, in central Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar got inundated following heavy rain, and reportedly led to the failure of the single biometric entry and exit point.

The Delhi MCD mayor Shelly Oberoi also shared photos of the sealing drive on social media site X.
