Nine members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), who allegedly assaulted a student over not attending a rally against Centre’s coalgate scam, secured anticipatory bail by surrendering before the local court in Sullia on Thursday.

According to a copy of an intimation from JMFC court submitted to Sullia police on Friday, the ABVP student members from governmentrun Dr Shivram Karanth First Grade College — final year BA student Vijay, final year B Com students Hemacharya, Rajnish, Amruth, Jayaprakash, Sudarshan, Nithyananda and Pramod and second year BA student Ajith had secured anticipatory bail in the case filed against them by Shabira Anisha.

In the complaint filed on Wednesday, Anisha, a final year BA student, had accused the men of molesting her and tearing her dress for not joining the rally organised by ABVP. She also accused college principal Lobo and Prof Balakrishna Bhat of hushing up the issue.
