PARAVOOR: Tens of thousands of devotees representing 54 parishes of three Forane Churches of Kottapuram Diocese will set out on a pilgrimage through the heritage land from Maliankara in Ernakulam to Sampaloor in Thrissur on Sunday. The pilgrimage is organised in connection with the silver jubilee celebrations of the Kottapuram Diocese, vicar-general Dominic Pinhero said. Maliankara is believed to be the coastal land where St Thomas Apostle, a disciple of Jesus Christ, landed in India in AD 52. Sampaloor, a popular pilgrim centre, was blessed with the activities of great missionaries like St Francis Xavier, St John Britto, Fr Constantine Buski and Arnose Pathiri. Sampaloor was the centre of Jesuit priests during the Portuguese rule. St Paul’s Monastery, St Paul’s Seminary and St Paul’s Press are contributions of Jesuit priests, diocese PRO Fr Rocky Roby Kalathil said. The pilgrimage in vehicles will begin from Maliankara at 2.30 pm and reach Kottapuram Cathedral. The devotees from different foranes will join the pilgrims. They will join the main pilgrimage on Mala Pallipuram Church premises to proceed to Sampaloor on foot, general convener Fr Binu Mukkath said. The pilgrimage will be inaugurated by Dennis Kuruppassery, secretary nunciature of Check Republic. Kottapuram Diocese vicar-general Dominic Pinhero will flag off the pilgrimage at Maliankara. Kottapuram Bishop Joseph Karikkasery will deliver a message at the valedictory meeting in Sampaloor.
