NUAPADA: Even as filing of nominations for the panchayat elections began on Saturday, Maoist posters were found here where the ultras claimed that they would participate in the polls. The posters, written both in Hindi and Odia, were found in Nuapada and Komna blocks on Saturday. However, in both the areas, the posters carried different messages. Posters written in Odia - issued by CPI (Maoists) Chhattisgarh-Odisha division - were found in gram panchayats of Komna block, Bhainsadani gram panchayat of Boden block and Nangalbod and Ghatmal gram panchayats of Sinapali block. Here, the ultras asked aspirants to take their consent for contesting in the polls. The ultras also stated that those daring to contest the polls without intimating the outfit, would face dire consequences.In the posters written in Hindi - issued by CPI (Maoists) Mainpur division and found in Dharambandha and Bharuanmunda gram panchayats of Nuapada block - the Maoists have asked people to stay alert for the polls.The ultras stated that those willing to contest ‘should be poor, committed for the cause of the poor, be truthful and honest’. Jharsuguda: Massive preparations are afoot in the district for the panchayat polls to be conducted in three phases from February 11 to 15.Elections would be held simultaneously for nine Zilla Parishad (ZP) constituencies besides 78 sarpanchs and as many samiti members along with 928 ward members in five blocks of the district. As many as 2,39,188 people will exercise their franchise and 1,266 polling personnel will man 928 polling booths.District Panchayat Officer SK Soren said on February 11 Lakhanpur block would go to polls and on February 13 polling would be conducted in Jharsuguda and Kirmira blocks. The final phase of polls on February 15 would cover the Kulabira and Laikera blocks, the DPO said, adding that results would be announced on February 22. The outgoing council is led by Congressman Noor Vidya Tooty with five members while the BJD has three seats and the BJP one.
