Three held for printing counterfeit currency

The Nedumangad police on Friday busted a three-member gang involved in printing counterfeit currency notes.  The police also seized counterfeit currency worth Rs 59,730, a computer, two screen printers, special inks and bond paper used for printing. 98 notes of denomination Rs 500, 104 notes of Rs 100 and 33 notes of Rs 10 were seized.

The accused have been identified as Rama, 32, and her husband Nazir alias Stephenson, 35, of Karipur near Nedumangad and Sreenivasan of Enikkara near Karakulam here. Nedumangad Circle Inspector S Suresh Kumar said that the gang was busted with the help of a computer technician who runs a computer maintenance centre in Nedumangad.  On Friday, Rama brought one of the printers for maintenance to the computer technician. He found out three currency notes of Rs 500 denomination trapped inside the printer. He became suspicious and alerted the police. The police reached the shop and confirmed that the notes were fake. The police asked the technician to contact Rama on her phone and asked her to collect the printer, which had been repaired. When she came, the police took her into custody.

“The police then summoned Stephenson and Sreenivasan through Rama after recording her statements,” he said. The bill of the printers show that they were purchased on July 9.

The trio will be produced before the court on Saturday.
