Srinagar: A top commander of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), who was involved in the killing of an eminent cardiologist in the Valley last year, was killed along with his associate in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Kashmir.
"Police and security forces achieved a major success when they succeeded in eliminating a LeT Divisional Commander, Bilal Ahmad Bhat alias Bilal Lalhari, and his associate in an encounter at Kakapora in Pulwama," a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said Bilal was involved in killing of top cardiologist Dr Sheikh Jalal and his two police guards in an attack at Pampore last year.
He was also involved in the killing of two Army jawans at Kadalbal area of the district.
"On a specific information, police, 50 RR and 183 CRPF launched a cordon and search operation at village Reshipora, Kakpora in Pulwama district today. The terrorists present in the village fired on the forces, triggering an encounter.
"Two terrorists were killed in the encounter," the spokesman said.
The other slain terrorist has been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh of Kirkipora in Pulwama.
The spokesman said that arms and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site.
