ANGUL: Two women were killed and another sustained injuries when a trailer ran over them while in sleep in their house on Wednesday night.The incident occurred around 1.30 am when Ranga Bewa (60), her daughter-in-law Bilash Pradhan (40) and Seema Pradhan (20), Bilash’s niece, were in deep sleep. While Ranga and Bilash died on the spot, Seema has been admitted to Angul hospital.Sources said the trailer, on its way to Angul from Sambalpur on NH-55 dashed into a road-side house in Bimalbeda village near here. Incidentally, some years ago, Bilash lost her husband in a similar fashion. A bus rammed their house, killing him on the spot.“We heard loud sound in the night and alerted all the villagers. We found the trailer in that house and bodies were under the vehicle. We retrieved the bodies and rushed the injured to hospital,” said a villager Hrusikesh Sahu.The trailer seemed to be plying at high speed and the driver either dozed off or was drunk, he added. The irate villagers blocked traffic on NH-55 near their village till Thursday morning demanding compensation. Jarapra police convinced the people to lift the blockade. The driver is absconding and an unnatural death case has been registered against him. The vehicle has been seized.
