Two farmers commit suicide in Nashik district
Shelke, who owned seven acres of land, had taken a loan of Rs 1.18 lakh from a cooperative society for his daughter's marriage and was facing financial problems due to the failed crops, police said.

Nashik: As the region is reeling under a drought, two cases of farmer suicide have been reported from Nashik district of Maharashtra.

Bhausaheb Ranga Sable (35), resident of Kotbel in Satana tehsil, hanged himself on Tuesday morning on account of indebtedness, said assistant police inspector Rajendra Holkar of Jaykheda police station.

Sable had taken out bank loans and recently he suffered a major setback after losing his pomegranate crop due to the current dry spell, the police said.

The other farmer, Bhaskar Shelke (40) committed suicide by jumping into a well at village Kalkhode in the district last night, police said.

Shelke, who owned seven acres of land, had taken a loan of Rs 1.18 lakh from a cooperative society for his daughter's marriage and was facing financial problems due to the failed crops, police said.
