Udupi Police Honour Retiring Labrador ‘Icon’ After 10 Years Of Dedicated Service

Their loyal nature is utilized by authorities worldwide, just like this beloved labrador from Udupi. Recently, the Udupi police celebrated the dog’s retirement, bidding farewell to the adorable canine’s dedication to and loyalty.

As per the reports of Local18, the dog was known as Icon and for the last 10 years and 25 days, it was working for the Udupi district police. It belonged to the breed of labrador retriever, who became popular in the region for carrying swift operations with attention.

Icon was born on August 5, 2014 and by joined the police squad wing on November 5, 2014. Udupi district Superintendent of Police, Dr B S Sudhakar has donated for the retired dog, reports Local18. The farewell was held under the leadership of APC Ganesh M, who worked as the dog’s handler.

The dog underwent 9 months of rigorous training on explosive detection at the CAR South Adugodi, Bengaluru. It has been involved in 417 special duties, within the Udupi district as well as outside. It completed successful missions in places like Kapu Lighthouse, Manipal University, Railway Station, Nagarjuna, Mysore Dasara, National Narcotics Conference, crude bomb detection at Brahmavar and more.

According to more information given, the dog has been credited with bringing several laurels to the Udupi district. It includes the silver medal it earned for the police department at the Police Duty Meet, which was held on February 22, 2020.

Icon has served numerous dignitaries, which include the President as well as the Prime Minister of India and foreign guests. It has also worked on high-profile occasions like Air Show, G-20 Summit and international cricket matches. Furthermore, it regularly provided services at sensitive locations like Malpe Port and Kaup Lighthouse.
