VHRs Congress brainstorming to be held on Saturday

Undeterred by the cold response from the state Congress leadership to his demand for a brainstorming session to find ways of strengthening the party in the state, Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao is all set to hold one on his own at Jubilee Hall here on Saturday.

Rao has invited the present and past office-bearers of the Youth Congress at all levels who served the party since 1972 to elicit suggestions from them to resuscitate the party which is in a moribund state in the aftermath of the humiliating defeat in the recent byelections.

Talking with reporters after reviewing the arrangements at the venue on Friday, he made it clear that the conference was not aimed against anybody but at helping the party regain its glory.

"The Congress has not conducted a brainstorming session since the death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy. It is appropriate time now to hold a session to discuss means of strengthening the party and to know the pulse of the party leaders and cadre," said Rao who had staged a silent protest at Gandhi Bhavan a few days ago to exert pressure on the state party leadership to hold a conclave.

He said he had invited DCC presidents, former Youth Congress leaders, senior leaders and office-bearers to the meeting.

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana were also invited, he said. However, the chief minister and the PCC chief are certain to give it a miss as both will be away from Hyderabad on Saturday.

Botcha will be in Tirupati on the same day to accompany President Pranab Mukherjee on his Tirumala tour.

Kiran Kumar Reddy will be leaving for Sriharikota on Saturday to receive prime minister Manmohan Singh at SHAR on Saturday evening and witness the launch of PSLV-C21 the next morning.
