Three shrines can be seen from the cave's opening and one of them is of a Hindu deity Lord Ayyappa.

Njandupara Rock Cave Temple is on the top of a hillock named Njandupara located near the Kuttamala, one of the historical places near Amboori, Kerala. According to Local 18 Kerala, Amboori is a village located on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram district. The opening of the Njandupara Rock Cave Temple is in the shape of a crab mouth. The temple has got the name Rock Cave from the rock formation of the crab mouth. The main tourist attraction of the Njandupara is its Rock Cave Temple beside the serene environment here. This cave temple can only be reached by a short trek up the Njandupara hill. Three shrines can be seen from the cave’s opening and one of them is of a Hindu deity Lord Ayyappa.

As per popular beliefs, it is said that there is a spring (a water resource) inside the cave that never dries up in any summer and a golden crab lives inside it. In the old times, the regions situated at the ground level were suffering from severe drought. At that time, the locals used to climb the hill and reach the Njandupara temple. According to the beliefs, when you collect water from the spring and offer it inside the cave, it will start raining at the same time. This is a west-facing temple and trips performed here are best when done in the evening.

The weather is hot during the day so it is better to climb when it is a pleasant and cold atmosphere. You can choose to travel to the Njandupara Rock Cave Temple either in the morning or the evening. Amboori is located at a distance of about 45 km from Thiruvananthapuram. On the Amburi-Kuttamala road, people need to just climb up through the gate opposite the SNDP office to reach the crab rock.

As per the Malayalam Native Planet portal, the natives of Thiruvananthapuram are not very aware of the Njandupara Rock Cave Temple. They don’t have much idea about the beliefs and the legends associated with this temple. On the contrary, the tourists arrive at this temple after hearing about it.
