Will Hrithik be able to fill in SRK's shoes this Diwali?
For more than a decade, Shah Rukh Khan has dominated the Box Offie during Diwali.

New Delhi: For most ardent fans of Shah Rukh Khan, Diwali is not only a festival of lights but also the time when the superstars' big budget films get released. For more than a decade, Shah Rukh has dominated the Box Offie during Diwali and most of those films have become blockbusters.

The trend began way back in 1995, when Yash Chopra released his son's directorial debut 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge' during the festival of lights. The film- a love story set in England and Punjab, catered to almost all age groups and ensured that Diwali morning was spent watching the film at a neighbourhood theatre. The film went on to create history and is still running at a movie theatre in Mumbai, having witnessed several Diwalis after wards.

Quite a few films of the superstar has released during Diwali and needless to say, have done stupendously well at the Box Office. The first film of the actor which was released during Diwali was 'Baazigar' in 1993, but it was post the success of DDLJ, that producers specifically blocked dates around Diwali to release their films starring SRK- a habbit that SRK himself picked up in the later years when he became a producer.

Interestingly, over the years, we film lovers have begun to associate major festivals with top actors of Bollywood. While Shah Rukh gets Diwali to release his films, Salman Khan usually times his movie releases around Eid- especially after the success of 'Wanted' and Aamir's films release sometime near Christmas every year.

Of course, not all Diwalis in the past decade have had a SRK film release. There have been certain years where Shah Rukh's film have had a mid-year release (like this year), and not all films that have released during Diwali have done well (case in point 'Ra.One).

This year, stepping away from the usual, Shah Rukh's 'Chennai Express' was released during Eid. The film, which got released in August this year, is Shah Rukh's biggest opener till date. While Salman did not have a single release this year, SRK and Akshay Kumar took Salman's favoured spot to release their films and made way for Hrithik Roshan to release his film 'Krrish 3' during Diwali.

Will 'Krrish 3' be able to cash in on the festival, which is primarily about spending time with one's family? Considering the flak the film's music has been receiving, 'Krrrish 3' has clearly began on a wrong note. But the film's biggest USP is Hrithik Roshan, who after spending a decade in the film industry and being extremely selective about the films he does, manages to bring the viewers to the theatres. The third instalment of the hugely popular series 'Koi Mil Gaya' has all the ingredients to become a blockbuster, in spite of an unimpressive soundtrack.

Shah Rukh may have missed the Diwali this year, but his next, Farah Khan's 'Happy New Year' has already set its eyes for a 2014 Diwali release. So while there is no SRK at your nearest theatre this year, there is always the hope that next year there will be a film by the superstar releasing during the festival of lights. Till then, take all near and dear ones to the nearest movie theatre and let a light eyed Indian super hero mesmerize you.

What's your reaction?
