HYDERABAD: Each day all of us add to greenhouse emissions but we have no idea about our individual carbon footprint. However, there is an increasing number of environment-conscious young professionals willing to do their bit for the environment. To help them gain awareness about their individual carbon footprint, the Indian Youth Climate Network in coordination with the Energy Conservation Mission and the US Consulate-General conducted a training programme on carbon auditing on Wednesday.“I never knew it takes 7,000 W of energy to produce a sheet of paper. After the training, I have begun to give my old notes for recycling instead of throwing them. Maintaining separate dustbins for renewable and non-renewable items is another thing I have started implementing. These are little things which most people know but never execute,” said Geethika, an engineering graduate. Around 24 professionals from various fields and students took part in the programme.Abhishek, a field engineer working with oil giant Schlumberger Asia, says, “I work in an oil company and as part of my work I travel by helicopter frequently. I wanted to gain knowledge about my carbon excesses.” Abhishek is determined to do his bit by little measures that can go a long way in controlling carbon footprint, such as switching off lights and turning the tap off when not in use.
