After much anticipation, the cast of the upcoming comedy-drama DNA Lover has been confirmed. The ensemble cast includes big names like Choi Siwon of the boy group Super Junior and Welcome to Waikiki fame actress Jung In Sun in lead roles. Model and singer Lee Tae Hwan and actor Jung Yoo Jin best known for Heard It Through the Grapevine, will also be starring in the prominent roles. The drama is expected to premiere sometime in June, although the makers have not announced the exact date. The family-friendly drama will be directed by Sung Chi Wook who is known for directing the fantasy show Tomorrow in 2022. The show is written by Jung Soo Mi known for writing the 2020 mystery TV series Born Again.
While announcing the cast members, the production team appealed to fans for their viewership and said, “Please look forward to the explosive performance by four distinctive characters in ‘DNA Lover,’ which encompasses a mixture of romantic comedy, human family elements, mystery, and more that will appeal to viewers of all ages and genders.”
DNA Lover follows the story of Han So Jin, a genetic researcher with a string of failed relationships. She aspires to search for her life partner through a perfect genetic match. This role will be played by Jung In Sun. Choi Siwon will take the role of Shim Yeon Woo, a very skilled but sensitive obstetrician. Shim Yeon Woo is the master of social intelligence that helps him win over every woman’s heart. However, he ends all relationships just when his girlfriends become possessive or controlling. It is interesting to note that Choi Siwon is referred to as the “king of romantic comedy”, therefore fans are excited to see him reprise a romantic role once again.
Lee Tae Hwan will play Seo Kang Hoon, a handsome firefighter, who is the second male lead of the show. His character is loyal to Han So Jin. This role is Lee Tae Hwan’s first project after his return from mandatory military enlistment. Lastly, Jung Yoo Jin will play Jang Mi Eun, a relationship columnist who previously dated Shim Yeon Woo. She believes a woman should not rely on men for everything as it will always end in heartbreak.
Back in November, Choi Siwon and Jung In Sun were approached for DNA Lovers. Choi Siwon’s agency SM Entertainment, and Jung In Sun’s agency H& Entertainment confirmed this news but said that the actors are taking time to consider the roles. Now five months later, the actors are officially in the lead.
