Moana Movie Review: Disney Weaves Magic Again With This Adventure
After Merida from Brave (2012), Moana is the second Disney Princess to have a story not based on a fairy tale or legend, nor having a love interest.

Disney's Moana is all set to sail to the theaters today. The 3D animation movie comes from the makers of Zootopia and Frozen and promises to entice the audience in the similar fashion. Moana is Disney's first Polynesian princess, the strong-willed daughter of the chief of a Polynesian tribe, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic with a goddess. When a blight strikes her island, Moana sets sail in search of Maui, a legendary demigod, in hopes to save her people.

Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the film features the voices of Auli'i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger and Alan Tudyk.

After Merida from Brave (2012), Moana is the second Disney Princess to have a story not based on a fairy tale or legend, nor having a love interest. Many are hailing it as the progressive step by the biggest studios to include more diversity and also from identifying the woman on their acts and not just beauty of prince charming.

Will this progressive step be rewarded with equal enthusiasm? Will Moana be the face of new age fairytale as touted by the studios? Will the story be as engaging as the known Disney fables? Sameeksha from News18 is inside the theater to find out.
