In a major relief to Ganeshotsav Mandals, the Eknath Shinde government has decided that organisers across the state will be granted permission for five years in one go instead of applying every year.
“Our government has decided that we will give permission to Ganesh Mandals for five years instead of every year. This will help them concentrate on preparations and reduce their tension,” said Mumbai’s guardian minister Deepak Kesarkar.
Every year, Mandals celebrating Ganeshotsav had to obtain permission from the local municipal corporation and local police station. Many times, Mandals would apply late which would then translate to late permissions, hampering preparations.
All Ganesh Mandals need permission of the local body to erect Pandals and decorate them. They also need NoC to take temporary electricity connection apart from police permission. The latest decision of the Shinde government thus comes as a huge relief to the Mandals in Mumbai, Pune and Nasik ahead of Ganeshotsav which starts from September 19.
Since assuming power, the ‘Mahayuti’ government has laid more emphasis on Hindu festivals and encouraged people to participate and celebrate them on a large scale.
Like last year, this year too BJP and the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena have arranged special trains and buses for Konkan region to ensure easy travel for many Mumbaikars who hail from Konkan.
Last year, the government celebrated Navratri, Deepawali and Gudipadva on a large scale in the state. The government’s focus on trying to attract the state’s urban crowd by organising and celebrating the festivals seems to be a calculated move ahead of local body elections that are expected this year.
