It’s 5 am, when Mumbai is either fast asleep or just slowly getting back to life. The usually sleepy lane outside Gaiety cinema, in the heart of Bandra, suburban Mumbai has woken up to Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film Jawan, and the superstar’s fans are celebrating ecstatically! While the first show is scheduled for as early as 6 am, but the fans have arrived hours ahead.
A giant cut-out of the SRK takes centrestage, some people play the dhol and burst firecrackers as fans dance around like there’s no tomorrow! The venue is bustling with so much excitement, it seems like it belongs to a completely different time zone.
It’s Janmashtami today, and some of the fans decided to celebrate the release of Jawan in some traditional way, by making a human pyramid and showing their love for their favourite actor.
Vishwas Shah is accompanied by five of his friends, and they have all taken a day off from work to watch the first show of Jawan. Despite, the tickets being sold on an online ticketing platform, it wasn’t easy for them to procure the tickets. It took a lot of convincing and following-up with some SRK fan clubs before they finally landed the tickets.
“It’s an experience to watch the film at Gaiety. We are aware that we won’t be able to hear many dialogues as people are going to whistle and shout throughout the movie but we don’t mind it,” Vishwas says with a big smile.
Ayaz, who has bandaged his face similar to a look of Shah Rukh from the movie, has come all the way from Nashik with his friends to watch the first day first show of Jawan at the iconic theatre. He has been waiting outside the theatre since 3:30 am.
“I have watched all of Shah Rukh sir’s films at least three times in theatres. He is like god for me. He is the most amazing human being and I can even give my life for him,” he told us.
Rohit Tripathi, dressed in skinny jeans that crumples around his ankles, is watching the proceedings for the sidelines as he gears up for the show. “I am very excited. I don’t think I have ever seen such a frenzy for any other Bollywood actor.”
Unlike a routine movie hall, where all the sound and activity die before the film starts, things have only got louder inside Gaiety cinemas.
