When Shah Rukh Khan Confessed Nobody Took Him For Action Films, 'I'm 57 and I...'

Shah Rukh Khan’s highly anticipated action-entertainer Jawan released today and is currently the talk of the town. Helmed by Atlee, the film portrays Shah Rukh Khan in a double role. His on-screen presence with action stunts and all things in between has impressed every movie-goer, fans and critics. Jawan also marks Shah Rukh’s second film this year after Pathaan which also falls in the action genre.

For the longest point of Shah Rukh Khan, who’s known as the King Of Romance, revealed that he wanted to do action films but never got the chance to do so. In an interview with Deadline he confessed that no filmmaker wanted to cast him in action films. “I’ve never done an action film, I’ve done really sweet love stories, I’ve done some social dramas, I’ve done some bad guys, but nobody was taking me for action. I’m 57 years old, and I thought for the next years I have to do action films, I want to do Mission Impossible-ish kind of films. I want to do over-the-top kind of action films.”

Looks like Shah Rukh is finally getting to explore this space and is also basking with success in the same. As Jawan released today, there was celebration throughout the nation. Right from single screens to multiplexes fans rooted and cheered for him, for his scenes. Apart from Shah Rukh, Jawan also starred Nayanthara, Priyamani, Sanya Mahotra in pivotal roles. While Vijay Sethupathi played the role of an antagonist, Deepika Padukone had an extended cameo in the film.

Today afternoon, after seeing the overwhelming response of his film, Shah Rukh took to his Twitter handle and penned a gratitude note. His note read, “Wow have to take time out and thank each and every Fan Club and all of you who have gone so happily in the theatres and even outside. So overwhelmed will surely do the needful as soon as I get my breath back in a day or so. Uff!! Love u for loving #Jawan.”

According to a report in Sacnilk.com, Jawan has already earned Rs 35.6 crores at the box office in India, thanks to the phenomenal advance booking. It released in about 10,000 screens, making it one of the widest releases ever for an Indian movie. Meanwhile, Jawan also features Deepika Padukone in a special appearance. The film’s first show kicked off at 6 am today amid massive celebrations.
