Law and order in places like Surrey in Canada’s British Columbia, where firing has become a regular incident, has become a pricking issue since Justin Trudeau held the charge, sources tell News18.
The police are mute spectators to the incidents of violence as they are facing backlogs, and recruitment has stopped due to the shortage of money, sources added.
According to the CBC report, in Hamilton, the police say some 1,900 applied to the service in 2020, but in 2022, only over 1,000 filled in. The drop is causing concern over the quality of applicants and the posts, which will become empty once the officers retire.
In Surrey, the police department needs 1,500 recruits, but has only 500-600 officers, the sources reveal.
