The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday issued a whip to all its members in Lok Sabha and asked them to be present in the House on March 23, requesting support for the government’s stand on “very important legislative business” which is to be taken up on Tuesday in the ongoing Budget session.
“All BJP members in Lok Sabha are hereby informed that some very important legislative business will be taken up for discussion and passing in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the 23rd March 2021,” the party’s chief whip Rakesh Singh, said in release on Monday.
“All members of BJP in Lok Sabha are therefore, requested to be positively present in the House throughout the day on Tuesday, the 23rd March 2021 and support the government’s stand,” Singh said.
The party had, previously on Friday, issued a whip requesting the members presence on Monday.
Lok Sabha on Monday passed the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021, a bill that seeks to make it clear that the “government” in Delhi means the “Lieutenant Governor”. The bill was passed amid strong opposition from the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party which said that the legislation is “unconstitutional”.
Meanwhile, the Insurance (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was tabled in the Lower House by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Monday. While moving the bill, she said raising the FDI limit in the insurance sector to 74 per cent was necessary to help insurers deal with issues concerning financial stress. The amendment bill, that seeks to hike the FDI limit in insurance from 49 per cent to 74 per cent, was passed by the Rajya Sabha last week.
The Budget Session of Parliament, which had commenced with the address of President Ram Nath Kovind on January 29, concluded on February 29. The second part of the session started on March 8 and is scheduled to conclude on April 8.
