Bangalore: The Opposition Congress will announce its first list of candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections in a day or two, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President R V Deshpande said on Thursday.
Talking to newsmen in Bangalore he said the state unit's election committee had already recommended a list of probable candidates to the party high command after having consultations with District and Taluk committees concerned.
The party's screening committee headed by Defence Minister A K Antony would go through the list. It was expected to announce party nominees shortly, he said.
The screening committee also consists of Union Ministers Prithviraj Chavan, the party's state unit incharge Gulam Nabi Azad, CLP leader Mallikarjuna Kharge and Mr Deshpande. It would give weightage to winning chances of a candidate. It would also accommodate all sections of the society while selecting candidates.
Referring to the recent spat between Lok Sabha member Tejaswini Gowda and KPCC working president D K Shivakumar, he said putting an end to such incidents would help both the party and the leadership.
