New Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan accused Congress party for using people and dumping them later.

"I feel that Samajwadi Party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh are the kind of leaders who stand by you, but the Congress doesn't stand by anybody. They use you and dump you," she told a news channel in an interview.

Asked if she was referring to an individual or the Congress party, the SP leader said, "I don't mean any individual but the party. Jaya said not many people in the Congress stood by the Bachchan family during the Bofors controversy that had broken out in the late 1980s.

"Did anybody from the party (Congress) speak up, and what is going on today," she was quoted by PTI.

Jaya said she felt “guilty” whenever she went to the city of Allahabad—the birthplace of her husband Amitabh Bachchan—since they could not do much for its people after coming back from Mumbai in 1984.

"There is a little bit sense of guilt. The guilt is that we wanted to do a lot for the Allahabad people after returning from Mumbai in 1984 but we could not do so," she said perhaps referring to the sudden resignation of Amitabh Bachchan from the Lok Sabha seat (Allahabad) amid the Bofors controversy.
