Gehlot constitutes Cabinet, 13 ministers take oath
Mahuwa MLA Golma Devi, an illiterate, has been included in the Council of Ministers.

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday constituted his Cabinet, inducting 13 Ministers including two Ministers of State.

However, the inclusion of the independent MLA from Mahuwa, Golma Devi in the Council of Ministers comes as a shock as she cannot even read or write.

In fact she was taught to sign her name in a span of two days just before the oath taking ceremony.

Golma is the wife of former minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebel Kirori Lal Meena, who is likely to prove to be an important independent for the Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

All the ministers were administered the oath of office by the Governor Shilendra Kumar Singh at a simple function at the Raj Bhavan in Japiur.

Of the 11 Cabinet ministers sworn in two were independents including Parasadi Lal Meena and Harji Ram Burdak who rebelled against the Congress after being denied party tickets and entered the poll fray as independents.

Parsadi Lal Meena had won the Lalsot (ST) seat whereas Burdak wrested the Ladnun constituency from BJP's Manohar Singh.

Both Meena and Burdak extended support to the Congress along with 11 other independents after the results of the 13th Vidhan Sabha were out on December 8 in which the party was short of six seats for a majority in the 200-member state Assembly.

The other independents who was sworn in as Minister of State is Ram Kishore Aini who won the Bandikui seat.

The other nine Cabinet Ministers are Aimaduddin alias Durru Miyan, Bharat Singh, Bina Kak, Brijkishore Sharma, Hemram Chodhury, Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya, Mahipal Madrena and Shanti Dhariwal.

The Rajasthan Cabinet also directed state Chief Secretary DC Samant to ensure good governance to the people on the basis of the ruling Congress' manifesto.

The new Cabinet which met in Jaipur on Friday afternoon under the chairmanship of Gehlot handed over the copy of the manifesto with a formal Cabinet memo, directing him to treat the same as sacred document, which constitutes the basis of the government's agenda and priorities.

Meanwhile, the first session of the 13th Rajasthan Assembly will be convened in the first week of January to enable the Gehlot Government to seek vote of trust.
