• As JJP’s Dushyant Chautala mounted pressure on the Nayab Singh Saini government for a floor test, unconfirmed reports indicated a hush-hush meeting between three JJP MLAs and former CM Manohar Lal Khattar at minister Mahipal Dhanda’s residence in Panipat.

• A report in Times of India stated that Mahipal Dhanda denied any such meeting was held. However, the report added that its sources said the JJP trio of Devender Babli (Tohana), Ramniwas Surjakhera (Narwana) and Jogi Ram Sihag (Barwala) weren’t the only ones creating room for BJP to manoeuvre itself out of a potentially tight spot. JJP had issued a show-cause to these three MLAs the previous day over alleged anti-party activities, the publication stated.

• Meanwhile, J P Nadda, the national president of JJP’s former ally BJP, will hold a roadshow in Haryana’s Panchkula from DC Model School, Sector 7, to light point between sectors 7 and 8 from 11.50 am. He will also address a rally at 5.10 pm at Ram Lela Ground, Sector 27, Chandigarh.

• On May 7, the Haryana government suffered a big jolt after three independent MLAs withdrew support from the Nayab Saini government, pushing the dispensation into a minority. The three MLAs were Randhir Golan from Pundri, Dharmpal Gonder from Nilokheri and Sombir Singh Sangwan from Charkhi Dadri. All of them decided to extend support to the Congress.

• However, the BJP appeared confident of retaining power, with former chief minister Manhora Lal Khattar claiming that several leaders of the Congress and the JJP were in touch with his party.

• The development came amid the Lok Sabha polls and within two months after Nayab Saini took over as CM, replacing Khattar.
