Lucknow: Akhilesh Yadav, after being chosen to be the new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, thanked the people of the state for giving an opportunity to the Samajwadi Party in the Assembly Elections 2012.
Speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN, Akhilesh said that he was given a big responsibility.
He said, "I will work to come up to the expectations of our seniors in the party."
"I will work with the party as a family like we always have...true that responsibility has increased."
Earlier, The Chief Minister-designate had said that the people of Uttar Pradesh voted for the Samajwadi Party above religion and caste.
Addressing mediapersons after the legislative party meeting, Akhilesh said, "I assure the people of Uttar Pradesh that we will fulfill every promise we made."
"Samajwadi Party will work towards developing the state," he added.
He further confirmed that he was elected to be the chief minister by all the MLAs and members at the legislative party meet, thanking all the senior members of the Samajwadi Party, including Mulayam Singh Yadav, Shivpal Singh Yadav and Azam Khan.
Announcing that he would take the oath as the Chief Minister on March 15, Akhilesh said that he would start taking care of the law and order situation of the state as soon as he is sworn-in.
He said, "Till oath ceremony happens, we cannot take charge of the law and order situation. We will be appointing honest officials to look after law and order in the state."
When asked about the parks built by Mayawati during her tenure as the Chief Minister, Akhilesh said no statues or parks would be harmed, however, the vacant space would be used to built colleges and hospitals.
Akhilesh met the Governor later and staked claim to form the government.
