Poll tracker: 11 per cent satisfied with UPA, 31 per cent dissatisfied
February's survey states that the satisfaction with UPA government's performance has increased since the last survey done in January.

New Delhi: According to CNN-IBN-Lokniti-CSDS national election tracker, the satisfaction with UPA government's performance has increased somewhat since the last survey done in January. Even though, it is a very small gain, the approval ratings have gone up from 6 per cent in January to 11 per cent now. The number of the respondents who replied that they are somewhat satisfied has gone up to 34 per cent from 26 per cent in January.

But even now, 31 per cent respondents have replied that they are fully dissatisfied when compared to 39 per cent in January. Interestingly, satisfaction with the UPA government has gone up in each and every state where survey was conducted in February. In AP, it has gone from 25 per cent to 35 per cent, in Bihar 17 per cent to 49 per cent, in Delhi 28 per cent to 41 per cent, in Maharashtra 34 per cent to 47 per cent, In Tamil Nadu 32 per cent to 47 per cent, in UP 39 per cent to 47 per cent respectively.

The satisfaction has increased in both rural and urban areas since last January. It is greater in urban areas. It has gone up to 45 per cent from 33 per cent in January in rural areas and 29 per cent to 46 per cent in urban areas.

The satisfaction with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has also increased somewhat since last January. The percentage of fully satisfied people has gone up to 11 per cent from 7 per cent in January.

According to the election tracker while satisfaction with the UPA government has increased, it continues to be very unpopular; only about one fourth of the respondents in most states wanted it to return to power when the survey was conducted. It was overall 20 per cent in January and has seen a slight improvement of 3 per cent since January.

Minority Status for Jains

Most people support UPA government's decision to give minority status to the Jain community. Overall 35 per cent respondents think that the decision was correct. 23 per cent say that they don't support it and 42 per cent have no opinion on this. Even 44 per cent Muslims support the minority status for the Jains. Among the Jains it is 74 per cent.

Two thirds of all respondents in the 6 states support the UPA government's decision to increase number of subsidised cooking gas cylinders; the rich are the most opinionated on the issue and support it the most. Overall 64 per cent back the decision. Among the rich it is 72 per cent.
