WhatsApp voice notes come in handy when people don’t want to write long texts and are able to share their views in audio format. And soon the messaging app will have the option to transcribe these voice notes into text with a new transcribe feature that will help you translate the same audio chat in different languages like Hindi, Russian and more.
The transcribe feature is essentially a convenient way of getting a text note for the audio chat word-by-word. These are primarily useful when you record conversations and don’t want to spend hours writing them down. WhatsApp is planning to give you that for the voice notes in a future update.
WhatsApp Voice Note Transcribing Feature: What We Know
The new feature is being tested internally on the Android version 2.24.7.8 beta recently. “WhatsApp is currently in the process of introducing a new section to choose a language for voice transcripts, scheduled for release in a future update. In this section, users will be able to choose from available languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi, with the potential for more languages to be added in the future. After choosing a language, a package will be downloaded to enable the transcription process,” WeBetaInfo has shared the details in this post.
For instance, if you have sent a note sharing the direction to your house, WhatsApp will help you define the details in text, and even transcribe in multiple languages which can be selected from the Transcript Language section that will be added in a future update. As you can see here, WhatsApp will also let you transcribe in Hindi.
The most crucial part about the feature is that WhatsApp is going to download a package that will ensure that the chat transcription happens on the device and not shared with another server to process it. WhatsApp is doing so to ensure the chat, voice notes and the transcription gets the end-to-end encryption security.
WhatsApp has teased quite a few features recently that will be rolling out soon but we’re eager to see how the messaging app utilises the transcribing feature and how it works out for the user.
