A concerning video has surfaced from Pune, showing numerous sharp screws scattered on the road. Concerned residents were observed gathering the screws to prevent vehicle tyre punctures or potential injuries. An X user named Rohit Sharma shared this video on March 3 and wrote, “More than 100 screws were collected after being thrown to puncture vehicles between the Collector’s office and Juna Bazar Chowk.”
The appearance of numerous sharp screws scattered on the road has led to widespread speculation that they were intentionally scattered by repair shop businesses to attract clients. The video has triggered individuals to recount their experiences of frequent tire punctures, fueling demands for an investigation into the matter and decisive action against those responsible.
Commenting on the above-mentioned video, an X user wrote, “Something I always said. Roadside Puncture shops are found exactly 100-500m after u get a Puncture on an Unimaginable Stretch of Road for Unimaginable Reasons. A Business ploy where staff or kids are deployed on Cycles or Foot to throw screws on Roads. Confiscate their Material.”

An X user remarked, “Now we need a magnetic sweeping machine also for cleaning the roads.” Making a similar suggestion, another person wrote, “Can we equip sweeper machines with magnets to pick up screws from roads? The increasing number of screws on the roads is a growing concern.”
An X user highlighted how the screws were let loose right in front of the Collector’s office and remarked, “The audacity to do it in front of Collector’s office. Fear of law is achieving new negative figures daily.”
Someone tagged Pune Traffic Police and the official handle of the Commissioner of Pune Police and wrote, “There are many illegal puncture shops on Baner main road. eg. near Saphire chambers, near Shrishti society, Opp Ivory Estate, near Pallod farms. I had experience of 5 punctures in one hour. Please take steps to remove them.”
The Free Press Journal spoke to people in the area who have been affected by getting their vehicles punctured by loose screws. Suresh Patel, a taxi driver said, “I rely on my vehicle for a living. Such incidents not only affect my income but also put my passengers at risk. The police should take swift action.”
