February is here, and with it, the buzz around Valentine’s Day is quite in the air. While most restaurants and cafes are trying to introduce some lucrative campaigns for couples to celebrate the occasion, an animal shelter house has taken this opportunity to be beside those who are still grieving their ex. They’ve established a project called ‘Neuter Your Ex for Valentine’s Day’. Under the initiative, the shelter hopes to gather donations to spay or neuter feral cats; those who donate will get the opportunity to name the animals after their former partners. This unique anti-Valentine’s Day campaign has caught the attention of many.
This unique initiative has been organised by Homeward Bound Pet Adoption In New Jersey. They took to Instagram to share a post announcing the special programme. The post mentioned, “Neuter Your Ex For Valentine’s Day! That’s right, for just $50 Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center will name a feral cat after your ex. The cat will then be spayed or neutered before being released back to their colony as part of our trap-neuter-return (TNR) program.” They added that TNR is an important component of feral cat population control because it disrupts the breeding cycle and prevents the birth of undesirable cats in our society. The donation will allow the shelter to provide spay/neuter surgery at a lower cost to community cats and carers in need.

The shelter recommended that people give $50 and their ex’s name (just a nickname or first name) via several payment platforms for this special Valentine’s Day initiative.
People loved the idea and have been eagerly donating to the campaign. Some said, “Best $50 I Have ever spent,” “I am screaming. This is hilarious…Take all of my money.”
A user appreciated the initiative and said, “I’m audibly belly laughing at my phone rn this is amazing.”
Many praised the marketing strategy and said, “Whoever came up with this needs a Raise,”. “Genius marketing,” “This is phenomenal marketing! Your social media person deserves a big raise.”
A user asked, “Will you send me a photo of that cat that my money sponsored with its name?” The shelter house replied to the user and asked those who wanted to know about the cat need to send in their email details. They would eventually keep the user informed.
