We often come across people who find valuable items from unusual places that change their luck. Today, we will talk about one such story that was widely shared on the Internet. As per reports, three students from the State University of New York located at New Paltz bought an old sofa. What happened next left everyone surprised. When these people shared their story on social media, it quickly went viral. Let us find out more about this development in this article. Three students named Cally Guasti, Reese Werkhoven and Lara Russo, who attended different colleges under the State University decided to rent an apartment together. To furnish their new home, they started purchasing second-hand household items. After buying several items they found an old sofa. It was so old that it smelled bad. The trio bought it for around Rs 1300 and brought it to their newly rented home. One day, while they were having a good chat sitting on the sofa, they felt something strange near the hand rest. To find out, they decided to remove the cushion of that place.
As soon as they lifted the cushion, they were left surprised. They reportedly found an old envelope, which had over Rs 34 lakh inside it. Speaking about this Werkhoven said, “For a moment I was scared. But after finding all the money, we spent the entire night shouting with joy.” They later found out that the money belonged to a 91-year-old widow, who had been hiding her savings in the sofa for the last 30 years.
Lara Russo shared that they discussed it among themselves and decided that the money should be returned to its rightful owner. Another student, Cally Guasti explained that when theory further searched they found a slip with the woman’s number and name written on it. As soon as they called her and mentioned the sofa, the woman replied, “There is alot of money inside my sofa and I need it.” The students decided to return the money to the elderly woman. So, they went to her house in Hudson Valley and handed over the money to the elderly woman.
This took place in 2014 but the story has recently surfaced on the Internet. For their honesty, the elderly woman rewarded the students with $ 1000 (approximately Rs 83,900).
