The Met Gala 2024 was a glittery night of fashion statements. Staying true to the theme — “The Garden Of Time”, floral embellished outfits were the rage with celebrities stealing the spotlight for their high-on-drama avatars. Among the many who etched their names in the good books of the fashion police was Zendaya. The Dune star slipped into an ocean blue gown tailored by Maison Margiela’s John Galliano. Her dramatic headpiece was a bonus. Inspired by her forest princess avatar, a British illustrator and content creator recreated Zendaya’s red carpet look simply by using everyday home items. Her creativity has now been making waves online.

Angelica Hicks might be an illustrator by profession, but over the past few days, she has been making the headlines for recreating iconic red carpet and runway looks of models and celebrities.

In a recent Instagram video, the artist was seen constructing Zendaya’s lavish Met Gala avatar, piece by piece. For the base, she picked out a strapless long black top and green pencil skirt. Next, she cloaked herself in a metallic green wrapping paper, sticking it in place with a tape. A sheer black fabric created the skirt detailing and a blue stretch of cloth from a mini loom made up for the drape running across her shoulders. A crumpled cloth was stuck on the artist’s shoulder to deliver the ruffled effect.

To recreate Zendaya’s eye-grabbing headpiece, Angelica Hicks took a pineapple out from a fruit net cover and utilised it as a headscarf. Cutting two chopsticks in half, she put the long strips into an elongated see-through black fabric and secured it behind her head. Similar to Zendaya’s fruit-inspired waist accessory, Angelica tucked a bunch of grapes around her waist. Plucking some leaves from her backyard, she wrapped them around her arms, rounding off a DIY Met Gala avatar. With her makeup at par with Zendaya’s, the clip ended with Angelica striking some model poses.

Compliments started pouring for the artist’s innovative fashion creation. “This woman needs her own design label,” asserted one impressed individual. “Amazing. You should be at the Met Gala,” suggested another. “She won the internet today,” declared a person.

So far, the video has garnered over 7 million views. What do you think of this DIY look?
