A London woman alleges she was raped by her first Airbnb guest who promised to leave a good review after the assault, UK’s Daily Mail reported.
The incident that happened in May 2021 in Croydon town in south London is currently under trial. According to the report, despite residing just 12 miles away in Kensington, Diego Dellarovere, 43, booked the Airbnb room, prompting the woman to find his choice “strange.”
Describing the unsettling encounter, the victim said that she was sitting on the couch when Dellarovere started touching her legs and said, “Put on spa music and I can give you a massage.” “I have oil. I will give you a massage,” he said. “I felt like he was just looking at me and not wanting just small talk and that’s when things turned.”
After the alleged assault, the woman sought refuge in her bedroom, barricading herself with a kitchen knife, her dog, and her cat. The morning after the assault, he purportedly left, casually saying, “I’ll leave a good review.” Despite initially contemplating reporting the incident solely to Airbnb, the woman filed a formal complaint. However, Dellarovere denies the rape and sexual assault allegations.
“I was just going to report this to Airbnb and leave it at that. My initial thoughts were it was pointless because it was not going to go anywhere,” the victim told the authorities, according to the British daily. “Then my thought was that he is likely going to do that to someone again so I want his name to be flagged.”
The victim left a neutral Airbnb review about Dellarovere as a guest, which reportedly annoyed him. “He responded with an angry face emoji and there was some back and forth messaging in which he said it was consensual and using block capitals said I liked it,” she said, according to Daily Mail.
Dellarovere then doubled down on WhatsApp, saying: “You are repressed, you’re not a good person, You need to be more in your soul, not your mind.” “Be an adult, not a baby, and I didn’t see any objections from you,” he said.
