As many as 38 schoolchildren were among 42 people admitted to different hospitals due to poisoning after drinking water which was allegedly mixed with pesticide.
According to sources, miscreants had allegedly poured two litres of pesticide used for crops into the government school’s drinking water tank at Benakatti village in Savadatti taluk on Monday.
Besides 38 students, two masons, one peon and a teacher also consumed water from the 5,000-litre tank and were rushed to the primary health centre at Yargatti.
While 31 children are undergoing treatment at the district hospital, others were admitted to different hospitals at Savadatti and Yargatti.
After being given salt water to help them vomit, they were shifted to different hospitals, where doctors confirmed they were all out of danger.
According to police sources, a bottle of pesticide was recovered near the water tank. Zilla panchayat chief executive officer visited the spot and ambulances were made available.
