ConsumerFed is planing to start a working women’s hostel at Pukattupadi. The proposal in this regard has been submitted and the project is expected to be implemented by the end of this year.
According to Kerala State Co-operative Consumers’ Federation Ltd president Joy Thomas, the hostel will be constructed in the land owned by the ConsumerFed.
“The idea for a hostel was conceived taking into account that several women working in the IT sector are not getting safe and secure accommodation in the city. Many hostels levy heavy rent and six to seven inmates are crammed in a small room. The new hostel by the ConsumerFed will have modern facilities and the rooms will be available at a cheaper price,” he said.
The hostellers will be given good food and transportation facility to pick and drop them at the office. The project would be implemented with the funds available from the Social Welfare Department of the Central Government. The cost of the project is not fully estimated. “The tender would be called soon and we are looking to complete the construction before the end of this year. It would start operation by the next year,” Joy Thomas said.
