Taking strong exception to DMK president M Karunanidhi’s remarks that she was trying to cheat the people on the Anna Arch issue, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday said his allegation was akin to that of Satan, after quoting the scriptures.
“No one has consulted me on removing Anna Arch at Arumbakkam or on the flyover works and I never passed any orders in this regard. When I came to know about it, I directed the officials to stop the works on removing the Arch as it’s one of the landmarks of Chennai,” the CM said in a statement here. “Had officials brought to my notice the decision taken by the previous DMK regime, I would have directed that the construction be done without disturbing the Arch,” she added.
“Perhaps out of political animosity, he is unleashing false allegations, because his ulterior motive to remove the Anna Arch has been thwarted by my orders,” the statement said, pointing out that approval for the construction of the flyover was given by the DMK regime in 2010.
The present government took up the flyover works as a routine one left by the previous regime.
“Does Karunanidhi, a five-time CM know that decisions are taken at different levels in the government, as per business rules and that every decision need not get the CM’s approval? Or did he deliberately allege that officials alone could not have taken a decision to remove the arch? Or had he passed the five terms as CM without knowing the procedures and is now raising questions ?...Karunanidhi should clarify this,” Jayalalithaa said.
