Mumbai: In a major breakthrough in the alleged Sheena Bora murder case, the DNA report establishes that the female body found in Raigad is hers. The DNA samples recovered from Raigad and sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) match the blood samples of Indrani Mukherjea, who is not only the mother of Sheena Bora but is also accused of killing her.
Mumbai Police officials claim that Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai killed Sheena in April 2012 and dumped her body in the jungles of Raigad district of Maharashtra. While Indrani and Rai have been sent to 14 days of judicial custody, Khanna has been taken to Kolkata by the police for further investigation.
Indrani and her current husband Peter Mukerjea, who is the former Star India CEO have been extensively grilled in the case.
During the over 60-minute quest when the cops and Indrani were at the Mukerjea's Worli house on Sunday, she was taken to her fourth floor residence. She was also seen gesturing to the accompanying policemen in the direction of a garage in the residential premises, which, according to police is the place where Sheena's body was kept on the day she was killed.
The three accused have been arrested on charges of murdering Sheena and disposing of the body in a Raigad forest in April 2012. Police are awaiting forensic results of samples of the skeletal remains found in Raigad forest where Sheena's body was allegedly dumped.
Police had on Thursday claimed that Indrani had confessed to murdering Sheena and were now also investigating if someone else could have been involved in the alleged murder.
