London: A fund will be set up in memory of the murdered Indian student Anuj Bidve, British lawmaker of Indian origin Keith Vaz announced in London on Thursday, as he promised full investigation into the gruesome killing.
Vaz, the Labour party MP and Chairman of House of Commons Home Affairs Parliamentary Committee, met Subhash Bidve, father of the slain student, his mother Yogini Bidve and brother-in-law Rakesh Sonawane in Parliament.
"Many people have contacted me to express their condolences and they are keen to set up a fund in memory of Anuj," the lawmaker said.
He said the family mortgaged their house in Pune "to raise 10,000 pounds college fee for Anuj".
"People want to help the family. Details of the fund is being worked out," he said.
Vaz said he will "certainly ask for a full investigation into the circumstances of the murder" once the criminal proceedings are over. The family of 23-year-old Anuj arrived here on Wednesday evening.
"We are deeply concerned with what has happened - murder of Anuj. He was a brilliant student. He was very straight forward, disciplined and soft. He was a very good son to me. I wanted to give him the best as father," Subhash Bidve told newsmen following the meeting with the Labour lawmaker, more than a week after the Pune boy was killed in an unprovoked attack in the British city of Salford.
Vaz told newsmen that that the family had expressed their desire to meet him and express their concern regarding the gruesome murder of their son on December 26.
"I have met today Mr and Mrs Bidve and their son-in-law Rakesh Sonawane who arrived here last evening from India. They contacted me a week ago and expressed their desire to meet me and express their concern regarding the murder of their son," Vaz said.
