Police on Wednesday revealed that Balan, the mastermind of the question paper leak, passed the Group 2 exam last year. He was apparently waiting for a posting.
“The ongoing inquiry revealed that Balan’s friend, Mohanbabu, contacted him, hoping to find out how he had cleared the exam,” a police official said.
Balan, in turn, referred him to two other friends, Senthil and Thyagarajan, saying that they were the ones who helped him pass.Mohanbabu then approached the duo, seeking ‘help’ in the exam for another friend of his, Rajesh.
Following this, two other accused, Jainivasan and Sathiskumar, also approached them.
On the day of the exam, the question paper was e-mailed, from Sathishkumar’s id, to many persons. A majority of those who received the e-mail were friends of the accused.
