VELLORE: As many as 1,016 persons have received treatment under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme so far in the district, according to the collector Ajay Yadav. He said this while presiding over a special grievance camp for the villages of Kolatheri, Chithatthur and Natapai on Wednesday.The collector said that an office has been functioning at the collectorate for implementation of the insurance scheme and persons interested to know more about the scheme could contact the office. Round-the-clock assistance is also being provided and people can call 1800-425-3993.“It is your duty to make use of government schemes while at the same time, you also have certain social responsibilities to fulfil,” the collector said highlighting the need for villagers to send their children to school as education was crucial to the development of the country. He also advised them to desist from child marriage which was also illegal. “Keep your neighbourhood clean and tidy and do not defecate in open space,” he added enlisting the various ongoing welfare schemes. The department of Adi-dravida welfare had disbursed `12 crore educational assistance to students across the district, he pointed out.Later the collector handed over old age pension to 23 beneficiaries, sewing machines to four persons under the aegis of the Backward Class welfare department, iron boxes to three persons, farm implements to 12 persons, horticulture seeds to three persons, maternity assistance to eight persons and wheel chairs to three differently abled persons on the occasion. He also visited the stalls put up by various departments highlighting ongoing schemes and projects.District social welfare officer Gomathi, district supply officer Santha, district adi-dravida welfare officer Ranganathan, deputy director of public health Dr Somasundaram among other officials were present on the occasion.
