CHENNAI: A contempt application has been filed in the Madras High Court to punish the Home Secretary for allegedly not complying with the earlier orders of the court relating to installation of the statue of veteran freedom fighter Veeran Sundaralingam in Madurai. In its application, Madurai Mavatta Devendra Kula Vellalar Uravinmurai Sangam, by its president KC Selvakumar, submitted that the association wanted to erect Veeran Sundaralingam’s statue. As a representation in this connection was not considered by the authorities concerned, it moved the High Court with a writ petition. The petitioner further said that  the Home Secretary had not acted on a High Court order dated June 20 last year to pass appropriate orders on petitioner’s representation dated January 15, 2011, within four weeks from the date of receipt of a report from Madurai District Collector.
