Sailors Forums Cry Foul

KOCHI: Sailors forums have termed the detention of the foreign crew of MV Mirach that ran aground off Kanyakumari coast in the first week of April as criminalisation and violation of international norms.
"The sailors are in a difficult state. What's more, they don't have proper food. At a time when a number of seafarers from across the globe are being kept as hostages by pirates, we should not keep them in illegal detention. Let the authorities take action against the crew but let them follow the norms," said Manoj Joy of Sailors Helpline Chennai who met the detained sailors on Tuesday.
